Just got and watched my copy of Keola's DVD. Wow - there's so much going for this DVD - just about anybody's interests gets covered - and it all fits together nicely as a whole. Content is similar to a Keola concert - but wonderful little comments by Gearge Winston, Ozzie Kotani, Led K, Cyril P Willie K and Ciny C added, not to mention Willie Nelson practically gushing over Keola. Wonderful scenery. Great shots of Moana dancing, along with Nona, wonderful sections where Nona is gushing like a typical mother about her son, and Keola's playing -- a nice selection across his styles -- and great close up shots of his playing. Yes, when you slow it down you can actually see what Keola is playing. Wish there were more shots of his pickin hand. Anyway - if you haven't ordered your copy yet, you're really missin something great. (Don't know if this would be too old hat for you Aloha campers, but I've gone to 4 Keola workshops, including "intensives," and well over a dozen concerts - so a lot of m,aterial was familiar, but still enjoyable and great top watch.
(Wow, this is the 3rd or 4th item I'm gushing over - and I know I haven't changed my critical self -- maybe a good year for ki ho'alu recordings, eh?) Raymond Stovich San Jose

You're so fast Raymond. I just got the post card last week and ordered my copy last night.
I did get to view it at the Aloha Music Camp in April 2002. It was so good, Keola fell out of his chair! (Those who were there know it's true!) |

I have a major problem with procrastination, so I'm working hard on things like -- going over email and snail mail only once, either acting on it immediately or tossing it out (a different form of action.) It's interesting to see how many excuses I come up with for putting a whole range of things off. Raymond |

I bought a really good book on dealing with procrastination a while back but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. |

Yeah, that's the one where I got the idea of dealing with my mail right on the spot. Let me know what Chapters 2 ff. say, if you get there before I do. Raymond San Jose |

I hear there's a site for help with these kinds of issues. When I get a chance I'll look up the URL. Raymond
BTW - I just bought the 2 volume hardback "archive" collection of all the Far Side cartoons ever published. When I added up all the discount coupons I had, it came to just a bit more than my food bill for the next week, but hey, I've just hit up my neighbors for their leftover turkey which will carry us for a few days. If you like Gary Larson's stuff - you gotta check this one out -
I realize that this posting has nothing to do with slack key, but I figured that if I waited till I got to talk story, I would never post it, and since this information is so very important... |

No, I think there's a cartoon in there somewhere about boneless chickens playing slack key, so you're still on topic. |

Cathe, if they are boneless, they are very slack already. They don' need no steenkin' guitars.
...Reid (who is also very slack)
PS. Back on Topic: We just this minute got our copy of the DVD and the autographed version of Keola's latest CD. Guess what we will be doing very soon. |

Yikes, this thread may be really lame. Boneless chickens! Of course, but are they spineless? You can't be a spineless chicken and get up in front of people and play slack-key guitar.... As for procrastination, I am the Queen! I've been taking the beginning slack-key lessons for three years now. I'll get around to practicing reaaaalllly soon, though. Aloha nui sometime, Julie |
