I think Ozzie Kotani's "To Honor A Queen" is one of the finest ki ho 'alu albums in a lomg time. Admit I'm partial to LiliE's music, as well as to Ozzie's style. What I like is that Ozzie spent a lot of time getting to the essence of each song and bringing it out in a distinctive manner. Profoundly deep and exuding aloha. Raymond

I have decided that Queen Liliuokalani is one of my heroes.
Ozzie’s portion of the concert tour with Keola and George made me realize that.
He spoke of her grace in walking through one of the most graceless periods of American history. To paraphrase Ozzie (wish I had his exact words on tape) he said that as she was under house arrest she urged her subjects to forgive, for, she said, in forgiving they would be noble. He attached that statement to his performance of The Queen’s Prayer.
Yesterday a local used bookstore reopened in a new location and I was absolutely delighted to find a copy of Hawai’i’s Story written by her, as well as The Betrayal of Liliuokalani by Allen. I’ve already mentioned another book I picked up in Hilo, a devotional called An Hour With the Queen.
We American houlies cannot undo the damage our forefathers wrought, but we can honor these lovely people who have freely offered us their music as a gift when so much has already been taken from them, and I think trying to follow in the footsteps of the grace and humility of this amazing woman is a wonderful place to start.
And, yes, Ozzie’s album is wonderful, one of my absolute favorites.

It is a great album. Aside from his skill in arranging the songs of others and writing his own songs, Ozzie always has great tone on his recordings - no twangs, the notes are always melodic.
