Thanks--the double case option theory is interesting! Still can't decide...

On Humidity: Actually, I dont' feel humidity is usually a severe demon--in fact instruments seem to sound better in MODERATE humidity!
I have had to use baby powder (on hands) to keep fingers from stickin' to the strings--ah, Kerrville Texas in June! 105 degrees, and 105% humidity! But at least the Folkies are the best of Texas folks!
Ramblin' Gordo

Played a Taylor for a demo-recording today, something to be said for good quality, moderately-priced functionality.

Aloha,
Last week I had a lesson with Uncle George Kahumoku Jr. on Maui and he shared with me his trick for getting the humidity out of his guitars:

First, eat an apple, then toss the core into the guitar's soundhole. As the apple core dries, it slowly soaks up the excess moisture out of your guitar.

Uncle George lent me an Ibanez for my visit to Maui so's I didn't have to haul mine and sure enough, it smelled like funky apples in there. Hmmm, I may not try it, cuz I'd rather smell my guitar's koa wood, but I thought it was an interesting trick of the trade from someone who frequently hauls his instruments back and forth.

It seems to work for me...

Does everyone know where I can rent a guitar in Oahu, preferebly around Waikiki area? I am attending my friend's wedding in Waikiki in December and asked to play a couple of slack key songs but I am concerned about bringing my guitar to airplane (I am flying from Los Angeles). Thought it might be easier to just rent a guitar for a day and avoid a hustle of dealing with airline agent.

Stacey,

Actually, the apple idea is one to HUMIDIFY not de-humidify a
guitar. Fresh apples do not absorb moisture, they emit moisture.
This apple-core idea is often used in dry climates (such as Colorado)
and is discussed as such on the Acoustic Guitar Magazine forum.
