Hi, I'm new... I'm a high school band director in southern California, just started playing slack key a couple of months ago. I've been playing the Keola Beamer intermediate series off the website- very fun! I'm about ready to start on the last piece in that series, and am wondering what I should look for to play next? Thanks for the great site and forum!
there's a lot of directions you can go, especially since you're a musician. following tab, you might pick up one of keola's books, such as "Keola Beamer Teaches Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar". mark hansen's book on slack key guitar might be good too. but, you might also start trying to work out some songs from CD? sonny chillingworth and john keawe are some good people to try because they often use taro patch tuning.
ever get off that mountain down towards san diego? we have a small fanatic group here that gets together the second and fourth wednesdays of each month at the M3 coffeehouse (see http://m3cafe.andrewphelps.com/ for location - it's in oceanside).
