Aloha, Herb Ohta Jr.'s Ukulele Breeze is a recent release. It's great and includes original compositions, covers and a great vibe. Good luck. Juan |

You'd be wise to start with the "master of Hawaiian `ukulele" -- Herb "Ohta-San" Ohta. http://www.mele.com/v3/artcat/ohtasan.htm
Mostly Hawaiian, but there's jazz uke too... |

Joseph Todaro has a number of tabbed instrumentals on his site, http://www.akulele.com/tablature.html as well as some fine looking ukuleles and other instruments. No Hawaiian music, tho. |

The best solo 'ukulele recording I've heard is "The Art of Solo Ukulele" which was put out by the Honolulu Academy of the Arts, I believe. It's basically 4 different players playing a number of different styles with a realy sense of musicality and artistry. It's techinically pretty difficult stuff to learn from a record (in my opinion). I really like the CD that comes with the Ohta San book/CD publication put out by Jim Beloff's organization, aslo. |

danni,
I just remembered another source, besides Auntie Maria's excellent site, of ukulele CD's both Hawaiian and other, the Ukulele Hall of Fame Museum, http://ukulele.org They have a number of CD's for sale. You may order them from the UHOF or note the names and shop locally.
The UHOF held their 8th Ukulele Exposition this last weekend. Several of your fellow Brits attended - a couple from the George Formby Society, two London fellows from a Hapa songs uke group, and one Kidderminster fellow who has started a songs from the first half of the 1900's uke group. I think there was a smattering of others. Email me if you'd like contact info.

Hip Hip and All that!
Herb Ohta Jr is certainly one of my favorites, Jake Shimabukuro is also tops on my list. Others you may wish to listen to are James Hill of Canada, Kimo Hussey, and Mr. Lyle Ritz There is a new CD I just picked up called "The Ukulele Experiment". As far as instructional videos/dvd's: The Joy of Uke 1 & 2 by Jim Beloff, Play Loud 'Ukulele by Jake Shimabukuro, and one for intermediate and advanced players by Peter Moon. I think you can find these on the Fleamarket Music website. I also have a video recording of a couple of workshops I have attended, if you're interested (no charge, but if you could cover shipping, that would be wizard!).
