I just wanted to inform those who might not otherwise be aware that there will be a partial eclipse on Wednesday around sunset. It will only be visible to Hawai`i and Alaska (as far as the U.S. goes)
The sun will be about half covered, and will set while still partially eclipsed: "in Hawaii, the Moon will appear to obscure about half of the Sun’s disk on Wednesday afternoon. The Moon’s passage across the Sun will result in a large "bite" on the Sun’s right-hand side, making for a most unusual looking tropical sunset!"
More information is available at http://www.space.com/spacewatch/041008_solar_eclipse.htmlIn particular, please make certain to inform yourself about safe viewing techniques. You can very easily cause significant and irreversible damage to your eyes by looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse.
Ha! Kitty, I know you know how to view the sun safely! I just always feel a responsibility to hit folks over the head with safety information so nobody gets themselves hurt. The world is much too pretty to miss out on seeing it because of a preventable eye injury. Enjoy the show on Wednesday!
