Aloha tout le monde !
My name is Antoine Payen, aka "HotDog". I'm a 12 string guitar player, newcomer in Slack Key guitar styles, but "longtimer" in Ragtime-Blues.
I live in Rouen, Normandy, France, and I'm 49.

Welcome HotDog. I think you're the first member registered from France!
I enjoyed seeing your guitars and listening to your music at your website. Great playing! |

Aloha Slkho, That's it, I'll be the first one, if I've to be ! But you know, a man like Bob Brozman is very popular here, like everywhere on the planet, I suppose ! His hawaiian playing is not Slack Key, but many people appreciate the sound he's got. I will play on the same stage than him on next november and I'd like to be able to perform a duet with him ... got to work ! |

Aloha Raymond, Bonjour Sarah ! I know Bob Brozman since 1995, he gave me the nickname "HotDog" ! I'm very, very happy to meet him again this year. And playing Slack Key /Slide duet with him should be a dream ... Do you play Slack Key guitar ? And yes I know Cyril Pahinui, I really love his guitar touch, so fine, so musical. But I don't know G. & M. Kahumoku, I HAVE to listen to them ! Thanks for the info !

Aloha e Antoine,

Aloha Sarah, Reading your messages and those of Reid, I've found out you and he were together. I've been to look at your profiles on the forum, with nice photos, great ! I could add a photo on my profile, but I don't know how to proceed. As ou suggested, I first heard Hawaiian music when litening Bob Brozman live, about ten years ago. Then I read things about Slack Key on Acoustic Guitar magazine, so I bought Cyril Pahinui CD "6 & 12 string ...". And again Ledward Kaapana CDs. And I immediatly loved this music and its magical sounds, but at this time, Slack Key seemed to be so far from the Country-Blues I used to play that I did'nt even try to play it, only listening and enjoying ! But a few time ago I tuned one of my 12s in open G tuning, which I never did before, and, surprisingly, all sounds I could take off the guitar were "Hawaiian-like", almost naturally ! So now I have to invest myself playin Ki Ho'Alu, I want to play it, and beeing back again a beginner is a quite pleasant situation after 35+ years of guitar experience ! My goal is to be able to play some Slack Key songs during live performances, maybe sing if I can find (and remember) the lyrics. And the sooner will be the better ! Aloha !

Aloha e Antoine,
I think Andy (Admin) can either link to a photo of you, or if you send him a photo he can put it in your profile. You can ask him how to do it.
