I am interested in visiting a music classroom on Big Island in late Jan or early Feb...probably either around Hilo around Feb. 2nd, or Waimea area on Feb. 3 or 4.
Would love to observe public elementary or middle schools with uke classes--and vocal or other strings activity.

I could take my Colorado teacher's certificate and introduce myself; but an inside track or introduction might be mo' betta.

Trip starts in a week, so RSVP if you have ideas!

Also, is the University a place I could talk to someone about requirements for transferring a Colorado teaching certificate, and taking special classes for certification as a music teacher in Hawaii? Just preliminary research at this point...but thinking bout possibilities!

There are a few public schools that do `ukulele classes.
One of them is Waiakea Intermediate School, which has a whole `ukulele band.

Also, for the University, they do had a music program, but I'm not sure if there's any `ukulele, however, I think there's classical guitar.

Their website is www.uhh.hawaii.edu

Maybe we can meet up and have a jam session.
I'll be on Oahu on Jan. 27th and won't return until around noon on the 30th. Are you in Hilo during that time?

Thanks,

We'll I've seen swarms of kids with ukes in Waimea area when school let out one day...
and got a great serenade/jam from a brave kid who played at our request...
(Also serenades from clerks and coffee farm guides--we loved it!)

We'll be in da southern part of island Jan. 31-Feb.2nd.
But are somewhere on Big Island from Jan 25 till Feb 7th.

Let us know if you're available for some songs.

Probably will only carry a back-packer guitar and maybe a fiddle this time...

Also, I'm between ukes right now...must go scouting for tenor koas!
Any suggestions out there for prospecting ukes on Big Isle?

Mahalo,
Gordo
