Anybody who has been to Maui knows about Pi`ilani (as in Honoapi`ilani and the various battles around North Beach). Pat Kirch and a buddy has dated coral from heiau that tends to bolster the accuracy of the geneologies and oral accounts. (I thought Pat was of retirement age - older than me, even :-), but apparently not.) See:
