Just 5 minutes on Library computer... Today I started thinkin about how my sound will be under the microphone... I have some problems with buzz, and after some attention realized that my right hand thumb touches the string as I go to alternate bass notes... I assume that attack, rest strke (*where advisable) and careful follow though when not a rest stroke, withsome long slow practice may be the answer... But you can get careless with little things... more later.

Yeah, I guess that's the trouble with bein an old saw-horse.
Ya go to pickin an it'sa whole new game.
Yep..start slow and careful and you'll get used to just missing.
Course, I'm not one to brag, I get kinda sloppy with the bass as well and sometimes (God Forbid!!) I hit the wrong string. Most of my buzzing comes from my left hand technique and from badly worn frets.

This may take some live analysis from a good teacher. Initially I thought it was the light gauge strings (required by Goodall on my Englemann spruce top), then I thought I was missing something with the left...sometimes I do! But like on "Dancing Trees" aka Hula Na'au in Keola's C, it's the way I move after striking the open G bass note... it's probably happening other places...I'll be watchin'. Certain rolls and figures seem more prone to the buzz. Buzz light-gauge, signing off. |

Someday I'm gonna publish, "Conversations with my self"... Here's more observation of my buzz: No wise cracks please. Oh, never mind, I forgot where I was.
If I trigger the 5th string, and come back in the roll to the 4th string, I REALLY have to watch that I don't glance against the 5th if it is still active. Careful prep of mid roll bass notes, it's free-stroke for most of this stuff, so it's the follow-through and completion/set up for the next bass note that is critical. I'm gonna hook up to my pre-amp (Rane) and headphones and see if I can be clean "under the microscope".
I will be consulting with Denver finger-stylers...both patch and non-patch... Sorry if I lost your numbers... Please let me know if you've experienced similar problems, or have POSITIVE feedback... But I will never give up, never surrender. Gordo |
