This might not be news to all of you steel players but it recently was to me. It seems that there is available a 9 CD set contaning much of the music produced by Sol Hoopii during the last years of his preforming life. I just recieved a copy of this set and have listend to most of it. It is a many faceted presentation, that is: it contains some interesting music, some (as you would expect) brilliant music and some disturbing moments (his last public appearance). These CDs are made frome the personal collection of Greg Tutmarc ( marcrecords @ hotmail.com ). If any of you guys have heard these recordings, I wonder what you think?

I've heard of those recordings, but I've never heard them. I've always been afraid I might be disappointed by recordings done in the twilight of his career.
Another CD of late-30's, electric lap steel recordings by Sol Hoopii is Radio Sol.
I've also not heard that collection of recordings (other than the clip on the website), but I have heard good things about it.
It's from Cumquat Records in Australia. They've released a number of compilations by Hawaiian Steel Guitarist from the 30's.
