Are there any non-pedal steel guitar players out there in Dallas? I'm a guitar player, and friend of mine who plays upright bass and I want to put together a gruop playing early hillbilly bop and jazzy country in the vein of Maddox Brothers and other things like that. Let me know if you know of anybody!

Hey Cory -

I've been rackinging my brain ever since you posted this for the name of the steel player I met last year in Irving. He's a crackerjack player, mostly mando & banjo, but he swings like crazy and told me he plays a double neck Fender. So there's got to be at least one!

Why don't you move out to Ashland, OR? (OK, I know the reasons....) But still, Rose Maddox lived here up till the end. I had the wonderful forturne to know her, produce a few shows and play with her a few times. Boy howdy could she rock the house!

I'm a big time Maddox Bros fan, and it ain't just for the Nudie suits.

Good luck to ya.

Mark

You know, my wife and I have actually considered moving to the the Pacific Northwest, but I don't think it'll be in the immediate future! Do you remember anyone that this guy you met plays with, or where he hangs out? You'd think I'd be tripping over steel players here in DFW!

There are some sites you might want to check, especially to find steel players in your geographic area:
