Poll Question:
Would you attend a Taropatch.net long weekend in Las Vegas?
This idea was thrown out a while back. This is completely preliminary so I'd like to poll how many people would seriously consider attending such an event? Need to see if this is even a possibility. Think an extended weekend, a 3 night/4 day event? Not sure what would take place... lots of kanikapilas, a workshop, or coincide with a concert? Totally open to discussion and ideas.

Mahalo Andy for generating interest again on this idea! I think it would be a great opportunity for TP'ers (and other interested folks) to get together.

A taropatch.net gathering sounds like fun!
Here's another idea. We could meet in San Francisco and ride up together jamming and singing in a chartered Kanikapila Bus to Yosemite National Park for a weekend.
I like to be out in nature inspired by beautiful scenery and very much enjoyed attending the Bluegrass Festival in nearby Camp Mather years ago. |

A get-together would be great fun. And while I don't have a substitute to suggest, I find Las Vegas is one of the least appetizing places on Earth. (Well, Gary, Indiana might rank lower.)

I think anywhere that is central, easy and convenient to get to by air, train, bus, car, or camel, would be a good choice. Since LV is a convention mecca, it wouldn't be so hard to set up something there at all. It may not be Hawaii, Yosemite, or the Redwoods, but it is an option. If there are any other choices out there, let's hear 'em!

For those wondering why Vegas? Don (I`a Nui) is moving his operation to Henderson,NV and is already putting the pieces together for big-time shows (Makaha Sons, Ho`okena, etc, along with all the Ki Ho`alu royalty). Cheap places to stay, lots of air connections, and a large resident Hawaiian and Pac Islander pop. The performers like going there and we think we can draw from a large area of the west. Piggy-backing a convention on some shows is a natural. Stay tuned. |

As usual, a few days late, and a few dollars short.
Only taropatch, (and maybe Cirque de Soleil) could give me compelling reason to go to Vegas...definitely NOT my destination of choice.
anyway, I understand some of the whys...
And we do love Lew's Casino --their slogan is, "the money you bring to Vegas, stays in Vegas."
But seriously, our travel ability is tighter with Karen's new job...think I'll save up for California or the Islands. |

An earlier post was asking for possible alternate locations for a large gatherings. Of course it makes sense to have it be near a large air-hub so folks can easily and cheaply fly. One of the largest and most traveled air hubs is DENVER. It is two hours from the West coast and three hours from the East coast and cheap flights can be easily gotten. If folks don't mind driving just a little (and group transport can be arranged), Boulder is about a 25 minute drive from there and is one of the prettiest places in the Country, up there against the flat-iron range. I.M.H.O. It is a much more compatible location for beautiful music like Slack-Key than the Gaudy Neon of Sin City.

I'm pretty sure that Linda Narup would be delighted to have 15 or 20 TPers sleeping in their family room. |

Geez, see what I miss when I don't check in... Boulder or maybe Estes Park would be gorgeous--in the Summer! I know a couple of us could make Boulder! I don't know where we'd center out of... but if we landed a gathering here... I could think about possibilities... Boulder's changed some since I was a regular, but it's got great restaurants, always some vegetarian options, and there's a halau that gathers for Hawaiian events... We like the Pearl st. Mall and also Boulder has my favorite Unity church... But the scenery and air are great in the Summer.
