I am late reading your message, but I am new to the steel as well. Going on 1 year since I started. Good for you, we need to perpetuate the steel more. Self taught, going by DVD's and Book Though all the instructors have passed on, like Jerry Byrd, most of the veterans are on outer Islands. I am in Honolulu, just kanikapila, like how Gabby did it. Good luck!! Malama Pono. |

Hi Alton, We are fortunate to have our own KonaBob teaching steel guitar every Friday at 11:00am, at the Keauhou Shopping Center, Big Island. Please join us if you get out this way.

Hi Everyone, I'm getting into steel guitar and had my first lesson with Uncle Charles Nosaka on Monday. Uncle Charles played with Aunty Genoa, Jerry Byrd, and all of the awesome legends here!
Anyway, we're looking for a steel. Do any of you know if there are any websites that sell some? I'm particularly looking for a Frypan (i know they're hot on the $$$), but anything will do. Or if you have some recommendations as to what I should get.
Thank you!
Have a nice day, Brittni

Aloha Brittni, so great to hear you're expanding your talents on more instruments! I've bought several steel on eBay, hoping I'll have the time to actually start practicing. Love the Rickenbackers. One word of caution, while I've had some good luck with the quality of the sellers, I was fleeced by one who dissappeared after I sent him my cashier's check. Luckily it wasn't for a whole lot of money, but it's the principle of the thing. Just remember this one word all your life: INEGRITY. You'll never go wrong...
That being said, if you'd like, contact Bob Brozman through his website www.bobbrozman.com and tell him Julie H sent you. Ask him about his steel bars, etc. Also ask him about National Guitars and can he help you get in touch with the right people about sponsoring you maybe. He lives one town away from me and is actually very helpful. We've had a blast jamming at his house this past summer.
Hope to see you and Mom when you come through town again. Auntie Julie |
