For those of you looking for a great, cheap mic, Guitar Center is again featuring the AKG Perception 200, Large Diaphragm, condenser mic for $159. I just finished a CD for one of our TP friends who used one of these and I was duly impressed. Get one or two while they last, but not before I get mine.

I think the MXL/Nady/off-brand condenser mics are forcing the established names, like Shure, AKG, EV and even Neumann to produce something more affordable. Jesse |

You're right. These mics are specially commissioned models for Guitar Center/Musiciains Friend (same company). The MXL tube mic is da bomb also.

While I'm on the topic of commissioned pieces, Musicians Friend has commissioned Washburn guitars to make a thin body, all KOA, acoustic/electric that's pretty nice. A musical partner of mine since the '60s just bought one and it's way cool. It's called the Washburn EA19K Koa Acoustic-Electric Guitar for $499 |
