What songs and artist would your dream Hawaiian Music library consist of. To include all forms of Hawaiian Music and todays contemporary artist, as well as past generations.

Well, I for one do not want to foreget anyone, yet I really do not know that much either. This has the potential to be quite an interesting list (but disjointed since answers will be spread across multiple posts).
As for Artists? Ledward Kapana, Ray Kane, Ozzie Kotani, Cindy Combs. These rate as my current favorites...

It is worth noting that this subject (under the title of desert island) has already been covered at some length. It would be better to attach this thread to the prior existing one than to start a new thread (with everybody repeating their lists), but whatevah's.

Thanks Lawrence I apologize for missing the post from last June, and appreciate your interpretation of my question. However, its worth noting, that I don't want a list of 10 Slack Key CD's people would take to a desert island as the post you motioned asked for. I would prefer to get an understanding of what other Hawaiian Music and artist people are listening to besides Slack Key. Doesn't have to be a CD, just an individual song or artist name will do. It doesn't look like you responded to the other post, so if you have a favorite I hope you will list them here. |

OK - Yes, I guess your question covers a broader scope than the previous list.
My problem is similar to Dusty's (the list is too long). However, I will mull on it for a while and post my favorites. I would rather post a list of my favorite music albums of any Musical Style, not just Hawaiian.

Dave - this is a really tough question because it is so open ended. Actually I'm only posting this entry out of courtesy to you.
I think a starting place would be the "Top 50" list that came out a couple of months ago. I certainly would not cut anything from that list, but I would expand it to more than 50.
When I look over what I listen to most over the last 3 years, the list is something like this: order: groups - females- males - slack key, within those categories, no particular order: (Asterisks indicate most listened to of the most listened to)
Makaha Sons Caz Bros. Na Leo * Peter Moon * Olomana Kahaunau Lake Palolo Ho'okena * Maunalua Amy Gilliom * Kekuhi Kanahele Genoa Keawe Lena Machado Natalie Ai Kamauu * within last year L. Rivera Bond within last year Frank Hewett * Dean Lum George Helm Mahi Beamer Dennis Kamakahi Keola Beamer * Kapono Beamer Steve Sano Ozzie Kotani * Sommy Chillingsworth *
Now I know that within 5 minutes of this post, I will regret posting this and think of ways to change it, add other favoritesm etc.
