I just have to mention Kai Smith, full name, Kaiolohia K. Funes Smith, and his debut album, Aloha Ku'u Home 'O Hana, which came out earlier this year, 2002.
He's been in the front of my CD case for months, right next to Uluwehi Guerrero and Darlene Ahuna, if that tells you anything. A very sweet and solid voice accompanied by piano on some tracks. I think my favorite track is Ku'u Milimili, where he does these great pauses within the phrase; really builds tension, which is, of course, resolved most beautifully.
