I got spoiled living on the Big Island where you could have a cup of da real kine coffee every morning. Lucky I can trade wine for ka'u coffee from a friend in Pahala (although they are not allowed to call it Kona anymore.)
Any slackers know where to find a good cup of genuine 100% Kona in California?

You can buy 100% Kona Peaberry Coffee from Drager's Markets in Los Altos, Menlo Park and elsewhere and then make a cup.
(Warning - it is VERY expensive)

Might I suggest the REAL STUFF? Order from Steve and Susan at:
http://www.bwanabobskonacoffee.com/
Sarah and I stayed at their lovely South Kona farm and, if I had to go into the Fed Witness Protection Program, that is where I would go (Now John Gotti knows.)
The berries are hand picked, of course, and moreover, Susan doesn't like the idea of storing them in anything other than the linen bags she creates. OTW, the berries might pick up a foreign smell and taste.
The first thing we were asked, when we arrived there, was "How do you want your coffee roasted?" I told her that I liked the flavor of medium (of which she approved), and that is what we got every day. EXCEPT, that is Super High Test. I nearly passed out in a pleasant delirium a couple of times. This is REAL coffee, so expect it. Pure,no adulterants, picked by very few fingers, no shortcuts.
The fruit on the farm is great, too, as are the birds (HUMONGOUS Asian pheasants) and chameleons, and the Mac nuts are there on the ground for you to crack with their special tire tread crackers. Oh yeah... a view all the way to Honaunau.
Say Hello from Sarah and Reid if you order.
BTW, don't get nerjus about the BwanaBob thingy, it is a hangover from another era. Or maybe not.

KonaBob and his lovely wife sent me a bag of Kona Blue Sky Coffee, Estate Reserve, which was out of this world! As soon as I finished that bag, I went online to www.konablueskycoffee.com and ordered a couple more. They arrived in quick time and every now and then I get to sit on my back deck in the morning sunshine, enjoying that very special cup.
Thanks go to Bob for the fantastic treat! Julie |

I stopped by the Kauai Coffe Plantation once while staying at the Barking Sands Missile Range near Waimea and Polihale Beach and bought some of their Estate Reserve Peaberry. Nice enough for me to sign up for their Coffee Club. I would get a pound of "their choice" coffee each month shipped to me. The only problem is I am the only coffee drinker in the house and when I was travelling (mucho) it stacked up in the freezer -- I had to discontinue. I brought a pound on ship with me one weekend and it was all brewed up in a heartbeat -- but then competing with Navy coffee is like pitting a Ferrari gainst a Yugo. Their web site is: http://www.kauaicoffee.com/ |

For Kona Coffee, if you're ordering online - I like Greenwell Farms. Their reserve is very good. The standard fair is also good - $25/lb. |
