Interesting NPR feature about Hawaiians in the Pac NW. I didn't know that they they melded with Native Americans as much as they did, or had the influence they did, or remembered what they did. You could listen to it at:

Thanks for the link, Reid and will check it out. BTW, the town of Kalama, WA had a big festival this past summer celebrating the arrival of John Kalama (a native-born Hawaiian) 175 years ago. Dennis Kamakahi, John Keawe, and Charlie Recaido performed at the ceremonies in his honor.
