A close friend of mine, Jerry Kilbride, recently died of cancer. Jerry was one of the pioneers of modern american haiku. As he was dying, he wrote the haiku found below. It is his "death haiku," a tradition in the haiku movement which has its roots in Zen. The haiku inspired the song "Counting Stars," which is found in mp3 format.
terminally ill . . . when I was a kid I tried to count all the stars
If anyone would like a pdf/TAB of the song, use my link. I ask that you agree that if you perform this song for others, you state that it is dedicated to the memory of Jerry Kilbride.
(It is not a beginner piece as it is a bit more difficult to play than it sounds. My mp3 even has 1 mistake. But I think it plays well, and has lots of room for "personalization," and/or improvisation.)
