Kumu Keone Nunes was one of the subjects of the PBS documentary Skin Stories. Nunes returned to his roots and learned about ancient Hawaiian traditions and kakau. He's spoken with many kupuna about the art form, and learned many traditional designs. Hawaiian tattoos are asymmetrically placed on the body, and most every part of the body can be tattooed — but always asymmetrically.
Keone will be talking on the subject of Hawaiian Tattoo. Date is January 28th, 2006, 1:30pm - 4pm, Kona Coast Room @ Hanalei Hotel, 2270 Hotel Circle North • San Diego, CA. Cost is $15.00 per person and $10.00 for College Students.
There will be information on our local Hawaiian Clubs and crafters.
Keone will also be taking orders for Tattooing during his stay here from January 27 - January 28, 2006. Please contact Tula 619-426-1953 for more information.
