Ah, but the album that won the Grammy this year was not "solo instrumental music."
This kind of debate over accurate representation by a winner of a category rages in many categories - even other ones in the Folk field. As a long-time supporter of "folk" music, I cringe when I see albums by Johnny Cash & Bruce Springsteen (as much as I love their music) listed as nominees in "Contemporary Folk," effectively shutting out lesser-known singer-songwriters and other folkies. I remember the first year an award was given for "Heavy Metal Album of the Year" --- the winner was Jethro Tull. Oh, please... |

Well, that flute playing did rock pretty hard.
I recall that well and it goes to show that even better known categories (televised) are not without problems. It's always nice getting an award but take them for what they're worth. |

I would almost say the reall proof is in the $$$ for CD sales . . but then the GRAMMYs themselves affect/skew the CD sales (which is probably the real point of the GRAMMYs). Publicity creates interest which increases sales where no interest previously existed. |

Have you noticed that since the Grammy's were announced, the Ebay listings for "Slack Key" have increased. Before the awards there seemed to be 50 - 75 listings including Buy It Nows. Currently there are 250+ listings with between 30 and 50 auctions and the rest Buy It Nows! Everyone's on the "marketing" bandwagon. There are some good deals out there if you watch for them and do your homework. At least Slack Key is getting attention.
