| On Dennis Kamakahi's solo CD "Pua'ena" he does two tunes Waikiki Hula (the Isaac Keola one) and his own composition Na Kupa O Wai'anae which have the warmest richest voicings I can think of by anyone. Anyway, to 'these ears' they are so sweet...the combination of his particular tuning, amount of slacking, and then the fingerings, makes a unique sound, eh? |

| It's an interesting question, but I'm sort of with Rus on my answer. Everytime I think of a particular song, 2 or 2 others come up as "Yeah, but what about." My flavor of the week is Steve Sano's version of Ku'u Lei Awapuhi. New flavor next week. |

| Any version of Hi'ilawe from Cyril makes my skin bumpy.. and almost anytime Dennis Kamakahi sings I get the same reaction... there is a short clip on the Eddie Kamae: Sons of Hawaii documentary where Dennis sings part of a tune, I have no idea what the song is, but as soon as I heard it... chicken skin... smooth, full, wow... it was just him and another guy outside, it wasn't the footage with David his son. Love it all. |
