Aloha from Kauai! Most of the folks here on taropatch aren't up on all the opportunities on Kauai... here's a few... Lessons - Hal Kinnaman (Hanapepe), Cindy Combs (Hanapepe), Greg Germano (Bounty Music), Kenny Rapozo (Kapaa) various styles from traditional to contemporary to jazz.
Concerts/Shows - Ken Emerson (slide & some slack key plus salsa, blues, etc.) Princeville Hotel (call them for times), Cindy Combs (Hanapepe Expresso Cafe/jazz & contemporary stylings), Doug & Sandy McMaster (Hanalei Fri 4p, Sun 3p traditional slack key style)
To learn about all the Hawaiian Music options on the island... not just slack key... tune in to KKCR 91.9/90.9 ... Linda Lester does a Hawaiian Music Arts & Entertainment every morning... sometime between 7:30a and 9a depending on when the programmer gets it on. Linda does a show on Tuesday mornings... Noel does Mondays and Thursdays (20's-40's).
Also, can check with the Hawaiian Music Store carts in Coconut Marketplace (Kapaa) and Princeville... or Hanalei Video and Music (hanalei) as they usually have tickets to big shows that are going to be in town.
There's a group called the Kamaaina's in Waimea that plays at the Plantation Cottages if you are staying out that way and don't want to travel. Any other questions... feel free to call us while you're on Kauai... Sandy McMaster 826-1469 |
