Aloha Andy and everyone,
Any way we could have a "wanted/buy/sell/trade" area on here?
Maybe separate "offered" and "looking" branches.
I'd have a lot more trust and confidence buying from someone here than on e-bay or wherever, though I've had mostly good experiences there.
Maybe set-up so it clears your listing after X days, so there's lower maintenance, or leave it to the lister to clear it after transaction.
just some ideas.
Oh, I'd be happy to moderate it if you like, and could clear monthly or whatever.

Option A) Create a Classifieds Section with two sub-headings 1) For Sale 2) Want to Buy
Option B) "Classifieds" section can be created under Miscellaneous. "FS" or "WTB" could be indicated in the subject line.
Any feedback on "option A" versus "option B"? |

Opinion only - have a separate section. Even of everyone who reads your post, some will forget to put FS or WTB in the subject line. Then there are all the newer people who join in the future.
So, Option A. And a moderator will have to comb out the ads from the regular section periodically.
Oh, another thought. On another forum, I tell people to put their ads in the ad forum, but a discreet pointer from the regular forum is acceptable. I don't know if you want that or not.
How about ads for guitars vs. ads for non-recurring personal lessons like Patrick Landeza's? Are they different animals? I think so, but others may not. Ad's for performances? |

Moderator could comb out ads. Or poster can repost if sold, etc.
Performance ads should fit in "Performance/Event Announcements & Reviews"? Personal lessons fit in "Live Lessons"? |

Thanks for your comments,
I agree with Pauline, option A, separate sections, would be more user-friendly. And with Andy, that performances & lessons are covered under existing forums.
I think we could start with broad categories of "for sale" and "wanted", and refine it if needed after we get a sense of what shows-up on the forum; ie. equipment, instruments, media(CD's, books, videos). Maybe the volume would be small enough that "for sale" and "wanted" would be adequate.
I was thinking person to person, but there's that question of commercial(multiple items, repeatedly) vs private(single item one time) we could discuss. Personally, I'd like to see commercial stuff end-up elsewhere, in the Links list for instance, or instructional materials forum.
Also, we could rely PRIMARILY on the lister to remove the listing when sold, and SECONDARILY, have a quarterly purge, or set some other time limit. This way, we wouldn't have to do lots of e-mailing to ask someone if their item sold yet.
Those are my thoughts.
Ross
Oh, I just read your support forum; made me think that we could suggest an optional/voluntary donation to support TaroPatch.net from each sale/transaction; 1% sound good?($1 min.?) Makes for a pretty cheap ad. |

Okay, let's see how it goes. Please do not hesitate if anyone has additional ideas or feedback.
Regarding optional/voluntary donation, do as you wish. However, it's easiest to make it "officially" free. Affiliate shopping links are nice because it does not require any extra work from anyone. BTW, thanks to those who have made purchases through the links. Mahalo for the support. |
