Aloha to all , got an e-mail touting the many uses of WD-40 and its history . Very interesting . One of the uses was as a cleaner for guitar strings [as well as uke strigs ] . I use Fast Fret which always dries out. I put some WD-40 on the Fast Fret and it did a real good job on cleaning the strings . I'll keep an eye on them for any side effects to occur. By the way the main ingredient of WD-40 is "fish oil" , and WD means water dispersant . keep on strumming..... Ken

It kills termites too.

This was demonstrated to me by a termite exterminator.

WD-40 is also sprayed on fishing lures when trolling/backbouncing for "Steelhead"

I wonder if it lowers cholesterol like the Omega 3/6/9s oils do?
If anyone tries, let me know.

... doesn't WD-40 dis-color the fret board wood? Doesn't seem practical by the first impression.
Keep me posted on any side effects, I imagine WD-40 residue would eventually transfer from the strings to the fret board when your fingers are working the chords. I use that Formula 645 stuff, but mostly just give the strings a good wipe down, and replace them every 3 months or so.

I used to use that "Finger-Ease" stuff but found that regularly wiping down the strings after use and using coated strings virtually eliminates the need for a lubricant. I also learned a new trick from Christopher Parkening that works -- soak your fretting hand (my left hand) in water for a few seconds (like, go wash your hands) before playing. Those little callouses you have developed will become softer and won't produce as much squeak noise as if dry.
