Aloha käua e Surfdork,
forgive is kala apologize, etc. mihi
E kala mai is used like our, "Sorry" or "forgive me" or "excuse me," for both minor and grave infractions.
For basic starters, you could try this...
E ku'u ipo ë, eia au ke mihi nei. E kala mai ia'u, aloha nö au 'iä 'oe.
"Sweetheart, I am [here] apologizing. Forgive me, I do love you."
...rearrange or elaborate as you like.
aloha and best wishes, Sarah

Aloha everyone, I am looking for the Hawaiian language translation for the phrase:
Mi casa, su casa. "My house is your house"
Is there a Hawaiian translation for this old Spanish saying, or the equivilant?

Hmm. I haven't heard an equivalent, though perhaps someone else has. a literal translation would, I think, sound odd. What I have seen and heard used in the welcoming context is simply "E komo mai", literally "Enter" or "Come in" but with a welcoming, encouraging feeling to it.

#699;Ano#699;ai,
Very literal translations that I am familiar with:
Nou ka hale (The house is yours) H#257;mama ka #699;#299;puka (The door is open wide.)

I was just writing that to be funny. Songs just come to my mind every once in a while. (sings) I never really knew that she could dance like this, she makes a man wanna speak Spanish. Como se llama? Bonita. Mi casa, su casa. (Shakira Shakira!) |

If you were to literally translate it, as far as I know it would be: Ko'u hale, kou hale. ko'u: my hale: house kou: your There is no word for "is" in Hawaiian; they have no infinitive "to be."
Oh, btw, this is for all you 'olelo speakers out there. If something I write is incorrect, please send me a leka uila and tell me where I went hewa. Otherwise, I will never learn from my mistakes. Trust me, I will not be offended at all. Mahalo. |
