I am looking for the Hawaiian lyrics to "Rainbow Connection"--the song originally sung by that famous green complected banjo player, Kermit the Frog. The Brothers Cazimero sing it in Hawaiian on their "Best of the Brothers Cazimero, Vol. 1" album. I've searched high and low for the lyrics, but no luck. I'd appreciate any leads.
Mahalo,
Doug

I play this song as part of my "Rainbow Medley" it's a nice song and well received. This site even has an automatic MP3 that reminds you of the melody. Good luck! Ray |

If you can get hold of the 2001 compilation album "Wa'ahila," there's a version of it sung by Quinn Kelsey, and I think the Hawaiian lyrics are included in the booklet. |

Thanks for those lyrics. I listened to the Brothers Caz album and found a few small differences in the lyrics as they sing it. Because their diction is so precise, it's easy to follow their pronunciation. Here's how I heard it, including a run-on transition line after the second verse:
Na wai e `ike nei ninau `ana, `o ko`u e ui a`e nei He kumu ko`u, he kuhi no na`e, he mau kuhihewa paha Ia`u e kau nui mana`o a`e, kau mai ke anuenue Na käkou e `ike, the rainbow connection, ke aloha e pi`o mau ai
Na wai e ho`oko i ku`u `i`ini i kau i ka hoku ao He mana`o ko`u e na iho ai ke ike e ulu mai nei He kamaha`o no ke kilo lani, i ho`ike ai na `ailona Na käkou e `ike, the rainbow connection, ke aloha e pi`o mau ai
Ho käkou me ke anuenue na hoa e hau'oli ai
He `oia`i`o ka nui `ikena i kü i nei mau maka He mea `i`o ku`u nui mau li`a a loko e hü a`e nei Ua pili nä mea a pau o ke ao i ka pi`o ke änuenue Na käkou e `ike, the rainbow connection, ke aloha e pi`o mau ai

Mahalo to all of you for your leads and tips. It’s really cool how one tip led to another and demonstrates the wonderful networking effect of Taropatch. Islandboo (aka “Kanikapila Princess”)—thank you for going out of your way to type all the lyrics out. It sure saved me a lot of time. I think you’re due for another kanikapila trip to the Bay Area!
Jesse, mahalo for your Brothers Caz transcription. I did exactly what you did, except that I had an old cassette recording of the Cazimeros, recorded it to my iRiver MP3 player, and then transferred and listened to it on my computer. (Lawrence and you other techies must be cringing.) Needless to say, the clarity was quite bad. I was approximating what I thought some of the words were, and even busted out the Hawaiian dictionary, but I think your transcription is more accurate.
Aloha,
Doug
