I'm happy to announce my brand-new CD and TAB Book: "Old Time Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar."
Recorded live at famed producer Billy Oskay's Big Red Studio in the Columbia Gorge, "Old Time Slack Key Guitar" is great to listen to, but even better as a companion to learning to play slack key guitar. There's no fancy studio magic, no overdubs (except `ukulele on one track,) and no other instruments to get in the way. The CD opens and closes with the soothing sound of the waves at Kaupoa Beach, Moloka`i.
The 24 songs are part of the essential repertoire that every aspiring slack key player should know. OK, I included two originals... I recorded this set right after the discussion about repertoire here on TaroPatch.
The book contains complete, note-for-note transcriptions of all 24 tunes. Written in Tablature and standard musical notation, these are full-blown arrangements complete with intros, variations, solos, bridges and modulations and codas. Most transcriptions run four pages or more. If you've been studying my downloadable TAB, these arrangements might surprise you ~ familiar songs are played in different keys or tunings, and with many more twists and turns.
Tunings include Taro Patch (in G, F#, F and Bb!); Double Slack (G and Bb), Drop C (C and Bb), F Wahine and D major. The book is currently only available in a special Pre-release version on PDF, allowing you to print out just the songs you want to work on. The book is just under 90 pages. Because of publishing backlogs, it may be a year or more before it will be available in printed form.
Because the TAB follows the CD so closely, the book is not available separately.

Just spent a little time with the TABS, haven't gotten the CD yet, but...
OK guys and gals - this is what so many folks have been requesting for months and months --
Almost 90 pages of music and TAB, close to 2 dozen of the "basic" songs most players sould/want to play -- good sounding (admittedly I only played 6 of them yet, but I "read through" the rest) - fairly easy, traditional slack key arrangements, well enough done so that they can also be excellent jumping off points for more advanced players to improvise upon. As they are written, a solid "set." Used as jumping off points, I can see makling this the basis of a 2 set evening.
I can't think of any reason why everyone on this site wouldn't want to get a copy of this. |

Aloha e Mark,
Does this new TAB book & CD come with complete MIDI files for
each piece? If so where are they?
(They do not have to be great-sounding but it would be
very good if they had all the notes sounded in the TAB)
P.S - Yes the cover art is very nice, also your website is
very nice looking and pleasant to browse!
