Hard for me to believe but Taropatch.net turned 5 years old on 2/10/07. When I started this site, I thought it'd be great to have 100 registered members. Today, there are more than 1500 registered members and over 33,000 posts!

Mahalo to all of you for making this one of the best places on the Internet! Thanks for your friendships, continued aloha for the music, musicians and culture of Hawai`i.

Andy

Actually Andy, at my age, I can't remember a time when Taropatch didn't exist :-) As a charter member I can remember when there were only a handful of members. Lawrence was the first (apart from you), and of those who didn't drop out, Cathe was 2nd, Julie was 3rd and Jerry (jsulle)was 4th and I was 5th (too bad the other beginners dropped out). Lawrence joined on the 11th and I joined on the 20th. Then there was this bogus member called "moderator" who I think you created because you really didn't know how to proceed then.

It has been quite a ride, hasn't it?

I really do have a life, but I consider this my second home, in which so many of my friends live, too.

I was lurking from the beginning, but it took me a couple of months to get up the nerve to register. To borrow from another topic, "You know you're a charter member if you can remember when Islandboo was shy!"

Mahalo nui, Andy!!!

Debbie shy?!? Impossible. I'd know that laugh anywhere. And, Deb, you still have not written a Camp report. Get off your shy `okole and do it!

My `okole is still laboring under the weight of piles of laundry and catching up on bills (catching up on posts here was a priority), but I will write one toward the end of the week!

Exactly what I meant Lawrence. Doesn't it seem as if we all have known each other since schmall kid time?

I can remember the first time Sarah and I met Andy and Lynette - in Spring 2001. Andy had posted on r.m.m.g.a (Usenet Newsgroup), asking if anyone there was going to AMC in Puna (the first one). I was hanging out there, so I responded, that we were going. Then, after a few more electronic contacts I invited them up for an afternoon and evening. I was really worried, actually sorta scared, because you don't know if you are inviting a serial killer or something off the 'net and into your living room. So, the day arrives, and so do they, and I open the door, and here is this *tall* guy (Andy is deceptively big - you kinda don't notice it, but he is) wearing a *NYPD* t-shirt. My brain goes "Oh, sh*t, are we gonna go to jail for something? How do I handle a cop?" Then, cute Lynette appears from behind him and I figure things are gonna be OK. Turned out very nicely ever after.

Don't be too relieved. If I decide to change careers and go serial killer, there is still time.

The shirt was my bad ploy to get out of a speeding ticket in case I had been stopped on the way through Connecticut. I understand that the state has generated a nice revenue stream from David Letterman's speeding tickets.

Seriously, the `ohana here has been so kind... from delicious meals at Reid and Sarah's to shopping with Kevin Brown in Wailuku to Don Narup picking me up in California to staying at Mr. and Mrs. Chunk's house.
