His last birthday fell on the day of a guitar workshop in Seattle, so we invited him to the Kona Kitchen, a local restaurnt. Without sitting down to eat, he took the stage and played for almost two hours! He sang all his hits and some pop songs mixed in, with David playing uke and Roddy Lopez on bass. Hoooooo! After a long day, he wore us all out!

...and Kona Kitchen now has a photo of the owners, posing with Uncle Dennis & David (autographed), to commemorate that one-year-ago celebration. Hau`oli la hanau!

More wonderful news in the Kamakahi `ohana comes from yesterday's Advertiser: "David Kamakahi, a musician in his own right and the son of singer-composer Dennis Kamakahi, proposed to Lisa Daitoku, formerly of Concord, Calif., but now an Island resident. The couple plan to marry next February or March."

And another good news item relating to Dennis:

Dennis will be spending the whole week at George Kahumoku's Workshop on Maui this June. No doubt this is partly because this is the TENTH year anniversary for George's Workshop. Also Ozzie Kotani is spending the whole week, as well as Bob Brozman, and of course, George and Nancy. Others are coming as well such as Cyril Pahinui and Richard Ho'opi'i, etc., but I do not know if they will be around for the whole week.

Dennis told me David is getting married in March 2008, and the family is very busy trying to organize all the things one has to do to make a wedding happen. And David and Lisa have moved into their own abode. Our babies do grow up, don't they.

David Kamakahi married Lisa Daitoku in a lovely ceremony at the Bernice Pauahi Chapel at Kamehameha Schools - Kapalama Campus. Reverend Dennis Kamakahi, the proud father of the groom, presided as kahu as the happy young couple exchanged their vows. Family and friends celebrated at the midday wedding at the chapel, and an evening reception at Dole Cannery Ballrooms. Entertainment included many of the legends of slack key guitar, beginning with Ledward Ka'apana. Check out pictures of the couple and family members at www.territorialairwaves.com.
