Thanks for the photos! Tonya - sorry I never met you. But it was sure terrific seeing everyone I did see!! I didn't find out about the overpass 'til later; had just decided to come down the west side of the bay; but had gone through that spot only about 4 hours earlier. What a mess!! Nice to meet auntie Ella, Henry Kamae's auntie. Camp is just next month!!! |

Speaking of photos, event DVDs of either the full festival or of a single performance are available through www.jtvideo.net. |

Are there any T-shirts still available? I brought one down for a friend, and of course another friend wanted one... she'll be at George's camp in case we can work something out that way. mahalo nui! PS: many compliments on the shirt design. |

Tonya. Funny, I didn't see or experience any of the things in your account of the fest on your website. It's like we are in 2 different worlds. There is actually 5 different worlds or approaches to the uke. That is what is unique about the Hayward Uke Festival. Unlike most uke fests that are sprouting up all over the world, the Northern CA Hayward Festival is really all about the performers, a fact easily overshadowed by the charm and mystique of the instrument itself. It's great to have everyone representing their passions and sharing with others who are trying to expand their understanding of music, art and life in general. In Hayward we come together as a mini-society, bound together through music and united by a common chord. Thanks again to Rosanne Ogao and her crew for taking the time and giving the bay area musicians and the polynesian community a chance to showcase their efforts and for keeping the grass roots vision that John and Holis has left us. |
