When Wanda and I returned home from Hawaii last Thursday eve, we found that The Mele Man(USPS) had left us a package: TP Member Fran Guidry's CD Kaleponi. Of course, we're biased, having seen him in concert at Honey's a week ago, but it is a very enjoyable recording. I especially like Kui Lima,a Fran original. And Grandfather's clock, which harkens back to my Old Time banjo/ dulcimer /folk roots. A very nahenahe record. Paul

Paul, thanks a lot, the check is in the mail <grin>.
Seriously, you picked a couple of my favorites as well. When I got my copy of Leonard Kwan's "Slack Key" album on scratched up vinyl from Ebay for $24 I was astonished to see "Grandfather's Clock" listed among the tracks. I set out to learn it right away and it only took about a year and a half <grin>. Since then I've been surprised at how many people recognize it.
Leonard also covered another 18th century hit, "Silver Threads Among the Gold." It was written several years after "Clock" and was a huge hit, but has mostly slipped from sight these days, except among beginning piano students. Although the song was covered by Jerry Lee Lewis back in the 60s or so. I've been having a lot of fun figuring that tune out. Ohhh, and that Leonard Kwan arrangement was the basis for Country Comfort's intro to "Waimanalo Blues."
