I'm completely flipped that a guy who lives on Oahu and has access to all kinds of great slack key music happened to surf through my page on myspace and hear I'Nehinei -- it's a trip to listen to your own music as background in a film.

It's a short documentary that follows master canoe builder Bobby Puakea for a day -- about 17 minutes long and has a lot of koa in it!

To celebrate I marked all my original singles down 20% on myspace, just in case any of you feel like downloading -- do it this week and save a coupla pennies...

My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can.

I recognize that song! It's not one of the Baja Kaleponi Slack Key songs.

E nana, e ho'olohe. E pa'a ka waha, e hana ka lima.

Mike, the only true "Baja Kaleponi" tune is Las Rocas -- that one was written in two days down Mexico way and polished when I brought it home.

I'Nehinei is among the group I call "Tamarack Slack" -- written somewhere on the beach between La Costa and Camp Pendleton. Most of the other originals are in that group.

I'm currently polishing the one I started on Kauai -- it's called Road To Hanapepe -- might have it far enough along to play tomorrow night, if not from the stage I can at least sketch it for you after we unplug.

Mahalo Andy, glad you like it.

Dusty, it's more Waimea Canyon Dr. than Kaumuali`i Highway.

And to all the SCSKS folks, sorry I have to miss tonight -- my bad, Vicki got me signed up about 2 months ago for a group trip to a theatrical thingie in LA and I forgot to write it down -- just rediscovered the commitment this morning.

So, see ya on the 12th!!

Excellent -- if he could spell it and play it I'd be real happy, ya know... I only got to hear Terry play it once and it was really good -- what I liked was that it sounds like he made it his own -- his version is not a note for note clone.

But the title is "Las Rocas" -- no H in there!!

The tune is NOT about perfume!! :)

Thanks Reid, makes me happy that my little contribution is appreciated.

BTW, I'm "live" this Saturday night (6/9) at:

The Upstart Crow
Seaport Village (San Diego)
7:30 - 9:30 PM

I'm the guest of Jim Earp -- this is a very intimate venue -- a small bookstore / coffee bar with seating at tables most of which are within 5 to 15 feet of the performers.

Jim is a wonderful fingerstyle guitarist -- he uses about 10 different tunings and gets more out of 'em that anyone I've heard. He made the final 5 at the international fingerstyle championships (Winfield) in 2005. Jim usually splits his time 50/50 when he invites me to play so look for an hour of Jim and an hour of Bill, probably broken into 20 minute shifts.

I'm planning to bring the baritone guitar (in taro patch D) and do my usual Tuesday night stuff to get relaxed. I may debut some new stuff if I can get it reasonably well polished in time:

"The Entertainer" -- slack key version of the old Scott Joplin warhorse.

"Road To Hanapepe" -- new original -- has been on the shelf since last December -- some of you may have heard a sketch of it at one point or another.

"Puff Variations" -- another try at making something different out of the ol' magic dragon -- and another one that will require licensing if it ever becomes a keeper.

Then I'll also be doing some of the stuff that you don't hear at our Tuesday night gatherings -- I'll use mainland open C (Fahey's C -- CGCGCE), will definitely do "Locals Say Elm" and then probably some semi-improvisational stuff incorporating recognizable themes from the Beatles catalog.

If I have time I'll do some stuff in drop D as well -- Chance To Love Again and maybe I can whip Vincent back into shape in time for this which I'll definitely do if Dusty and Sheila tell me they'll be there.

So, in the event that you have nothin' better to do, c'mon down. If you need help locating Seaport Village it's here:

Thanks for letting me share the music and the aloha...

Bill
