How this for "talk story"?
A friend of mine got hold of a strange old Ukulele and gave it to me, thinking that it wasn't worth much. I Googled it and found out otherwise.
It has a round body, painted a light blue, has red tuning pegs, and a little sticker on the head with the words Gretsch USA. I also comes in the original cloth carrying bag.
My search tells me that this is a "Camp" uke, dating from the 30's, and sells to collectors for anywhere from $95 to $150!
I haven't restrung it and tried playing it yet. I'm not sure whether to sell it (and split the proceeds with my friend), hang it on the wall, or play music on it.
My dog has some very rare fleas...

There's one at a local music store here in Idaho and it sounds pretty good, given its age and size. But it was definitely mass produced and looks a lot like a cheap tourist uke, except for the round body, from the 1950s that I bought on Ebay. Jesse Tinsley |
