As stated, the misunderstanding of colloquialisms and general intent fueled a flame that has now subsided,(On this side)

Pat Mike and myself, not taking it too seriously and me acting the fool as per usual (as is my BAD intonation .. The head wasn't so good that day)

Basil,

I want. I want.

Thank you so much for what you have sent so far. Some very wonderful stuff.

Basil,

This is really just a wonderful treat it's really very kind of you to be so generous with your music this way. Very intimate. I love the camera angle...it makes the music that much more magical. Plus it takes you out of the shot!!! I'M JOKING,OF COURSE!! Any way, it's all very, very special and much appreciated. I'm sure that for the people that actually play steel these clips are like advanced lessons.

Basil felt insulted by criticism. He has removed the majority of his posts, and is now in "victim" mode. That's why this (and several other) thread(s) no longer makes sense.

Funny he can dish it out but can he take it. I guess the Brit needs to learn more about the Hawaiian spirit. He is always welcome to share but come with head down.

Lessons to be learned. Time to take a deep breath. But I do miss his music, after all is said and done.

Whew! Glad to see that I'm not so dumb after all. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Thanks for explaining, Retro!

Criticism. No matter how accomplished one is, one can never have the "whole pie". (food analogies yet again!) My Dad said that if you can't learn how to do something from someone, you can learn how not to do it. Mike Auldridge said that he's constantly blown away by 13 year old kids in parking lots at Bluegrass festivals. It's just music. Enjoy it or do something else.

Methinks we got off on the wrong foot with Basil, perhaps because of cultural differences or miscommunication. He's not a neophyte and his considerable skills show his commitment to the music we all love. His British roots may have caused us to misunderstand him, despite the common language. There are several prickly characters who are in our TP 'ohana but whom we love and respect because we've gotten to know them over the years here on the forum.
Perhaps if Basil will return we can establish ourselves in the common love of the music and not jump on his case for perceived slights that were not intended.

As a European who came to this beautiful US of A as a young teenager, speaking very little English, I can verify that there are huge cultural differences between us all. It was extremely difficult to acclimate to the strange things people would say and do, and the adjustments for me were never-ending.

I can understand that something someone said may be easily misconstrued, misunderstood, mistaken, misread. For that reason, we should all give each other a lot of leeway, and ourselves a pat on the back for being kind and gentle.

Aloha from the heart,

Julie

Basil, nice to see that you have reposted your music clips. Mahalo nui loa for that.
