I be new member here, but have enjoyed visiting this place for a while now.
I love ki ho 'alu, and most talk I have seen here gives me feelings that I would want to know you folks. I guess the gentle/joyful mele attracts genuine good people . . .
Anyhow, looking forward to learning more, and enjoying time here with you.

Thanks all.
A friend loaned me a cd to listen to a while back (Blacksand: Ledward Kaapana) and I was hooked. Since then I have been buying hawaiian music cds--primarily Ki ho 'alu.
Coincidently, I started trying to learn to play the acoustic guitar a few months prior to my first encounter with that cd, and it just seemed like the thing to do to work on mele.
I am nearly mid-way between Portland and Eugene, Oregon.
Always looking for opportunities to listen to music (not much around here except a little blues or something once in a while), or workshop for Ki ho 'alu, but again not alot here, so I have to keep myself entertained with my feeble attempts at mele on my own kika.
Missed my chance, not too long ago, to get in on a workshop given by Led Kaapana, in Eugene, schedule wouldn't work for me.
Gotta say too, there are a bunch of accomplished players in this forum, guessing many, many, are professional, yes? Enjoyed listening to the tracks on the Soundclick link . . . good stuff. I could wonder, too, near-beginners are okay here yes?
Later. |

Hi JCat,
Welcome to the 'patch. Glad that you registered and introduced yourself.
When I started this site, I thought it'd be cool to have 100 members! Maybe we'll hit 2000 in 2008. This community is made up of all kinds of people. Some are just fans (don't play an instrument) while others are touring musicians. Taropatch is blessed to have all kinds of colorful characters from all over the world. |

as in any crowd . . the experience level varies depending on which way you look. . .
There are times when I think I may be able to add to the discussion(s) and many more times when I learn valuable "stuff" just from reading. |
