I was playing last night with two Hawaiian guys (Uncle Dona, and Bruddah George). Uncle has a great voice, and Bruddah George picked up my 3 string bass and had figured out how to play it within a matter of minutes.
The tuning I am using here was given to me by Ken Emerson: It is basically taro patch G with the middle D raised up to an E. (D-G-E-G-B-D).
A very versatile tuning. Just a bit edgier than C 6th, and easy to get to from taro patch G. I am playing my little Baritone Uke size steel that Dennis Lake helped me create.
My wife recorded this using our little FujiFilm F10 camera - it is not a pro job, but good enough to show off this tuning.
