Ya know, Julie, I was all set to tell you to go ahead and use the case. I had used gun cases to carry dulcimers for years, with no ill effects.

But then I read Paul's note about the gunpowder residue... good advice!

Last week at the Maui airport the TSA guy somehow decided my Dennis Lake `ukulele was a lethal weapon. I'm not kidding-- he went over every inch of the `ukulele and case, inside and out, with those little pads they use to look for explosives. I stood there smiling, but if the dude had attempted to impound the `ukulele I woulda jumped him good. No one is gonna take that uke from me!

As near as I can tell, the suspicious article was the little plastic humidifier inside the case-- which was dry. And I've flown with that case maybe a dozen times so far.

Can't be too careful. Buy a new case...

21 gun salutes are made whenever requested for the funeral of a veteran. We had seven veterans shoot three rounds each, in three separate volleys. This was for my father, Bronze Star winner in WW II and also Korean veteran.

Sorry for your loss...
I realized later that it was probably pretty sad....
My dad and mom are buried at Ft. Logan, our national veterans cemetary.
When taps or 21 gun salutes are done, it's very reverant and moving.
I apologize.

Kapila Kane - I certainly realize no slight was intended. It was a most moving ceremony. And God bless those veterans who take part in these ceremonies. They really bring a lot of comfort to those who are mourning a loss.

Just down the rows from my parents, are recent youth and lifers who perished in Iraq...
very moving.
The Ft. Logan national cemetary is nearing full...
then they will begin a space in Colorado Springs...
but mom and dad are near...
nearer than Ft. Logan.
Still, it's a beautiful place...where all are equal (even the headstones) ...and at rest in a beautiful space.
Sometimes in Spring, I take lilacs.
Wonder if they like slack key?
Those harps are so 19th century...and heavy....a little slack key guitar seems lighter fare.
And leaves a lighter carbon footprint on the clouds.
