As I am aging (and those around me, as well), I realize that there is much I do not know about my own family history. When I was a kid, I couldn't stand to hear my ma, pa or any of the old aunties, grandpas, etc. talk story. They talked about old people long dead, people I didn't know, and besides it was boring stuff like what happened during WW II when the northern lights were highly visible in W.Va. and people thought it was the end of the world. Now I wish I had paid attention. So much I could have learned.
As many of you may know, I am an avid scrapbooker and spend ridiculous sums of money on beautiful papers and stickers and printing my own photos. I have made pictoral histories for various family members, such as a tribute to Paul's mom for her 90th birthday. The following is scrom Scrapjazz.com, which is a wonderful site for info about scrapbooking and for obtaining supplies and ideas. It is a good bunch of questions to ask to document the history of one of your kupuna. It wouldn't hurt you to document the answers for yourself and your spouse as well. You could perhaps send them out to folks ahead of time of any large family gathering such as a milestone birthday or a family reunion. Please don't let your family history be lost. We all have much more interesting histories that we would ever know.
