Budget minded upright bass player here. I am looking at replacing my upright bass. I already have a Dean Pace bass, while it does fit my budget and space requirements, nothing can compare to a good solid upright. Any suggestions such as those CCB (cheap chinese bass) or other possible resoucres (rent to own options)?

I played a CCB, a Cremona #2, last night at a jam and it was plenty loud for jamming acoustically. The action was okay and the finish was okay. These can generally be had on Ebay, with shipping, at well under $1000. Someone who is an experienced bass player could probably find fault with its tone, though upright basses are pretty similar when they are plucked.

mahalo for the information guys. yes, if money was no object, i would invest in a higher quality upright, sheesh a Kay would be the one i'd go for. but in checking the other boards (e.g. talkbass, rockabilly bass) the jury is mixed on them. i am reassured by your input jesse and fran. guess i have a better idea where my tax returns and/or economic stimulus act of 2008 checks may be going! |

Better than making war! Try Harryʻs music in Kaimuki.
