I bet there are a lot of great guitars out there owned by our Patch members. I hope you never have this story to tell.
I was playing my NEW Martin omc-18vLJ last night (standing) and slipped on a cat toy. I went down on my back but my head hit the couch and my chin was thrust through the side of my precious guitar--right at the waist. It was a completely horrifying experience.

Last guitar I bought- about 18 years ago- was on the mainland, cheaper there and I was visiting a girl I wanted to impress. We were touring through the back roads of Northern California or Southern Oregon- after camping somewhere I put the guitar on the roof of the rental car. Forgot it was there and drove off. Perhaps an hour later it suddenly hit me what I had done. Very quiet dirt road and early, so I decided to go back and look for it on the faint hope. Found it on the road- it had traveled a few miles on top of the car!
Point is, it had a decent hole in the side- and only three days old! Still sounded all right, though- and still does 18 years later.

I am ok. Two scratches on my face a small lump under my lip and a sore shoulder. My three popoki are have nothing to worry about. They will enjoy a lifetime of safety and comfort because I am an animal lover.
This is weird, I may hit the 400 mark talking about how I broke one of the two best guitars I have ever owned! |

| Stuff happens. Always use a strap. Look before you pick. Animals and cute little kids have no concept of "careful". Sit when possible. Avoid dancing around. Never lick anything electrical. The guitar / ukulele / instrument you save may just be your own. Remember: they aren't just "instruments", they're appendages. |

Well, I know one guy from Atlantic City who was on a road trip and somewhere in Arizona or New Mexico he pulled into a rest stop. Played his Collings for a while, then just left it there and drove off. Never found it.

Wow, that's scary. No scary guitar story from me, but one photo to share.
Our cat loves falling asleep to the sounds of the guitar. Or maybe he just loves sleeping all the time. |

I'm glad you weren't hurt badly, Bob.
In my late teens, while at a church camp, I set my `ukulele on top of its case after playing it. Someone bumped into a speaker, which fell onto my `ukulele and crushed it. Although I got another Kamaka concert `ukulele, I could not throw out the old one for many years, despite the fact it was beyond repair. I think I played that first Kamaka concert more in the six years I had it in my teens than I have its successor in the 20+ years I've owned it.

Glad your face survived with small scratch amazing how cats and dogs and kids allways under foot at wrong time? :-)
Favorite instrument not even always safe in the case. I always ( OK not ALWAYS but most times) keep my instruments in da case when not playing. When we moving from one house to another I go home one morning to mare a moving load and when I walk down the steps to the Basement for to get stuff worst sight of my life. Martin Guitar, Martin Ukulele both float around like boats in da cases in two foot of water. Durring the night the water heater broke and flooded the basement. The ukulele not so bad shape funny thing case not as good but did not absorb and hold water like real nise case the Guitar was in with deep thick lining to keep guitar safe.
Guitar still in one peice had it check out by only Luther in area said it OK but OH the FINISH it looks SO BAD not sure what I will do . She still sounds OK when some one plays her. Just not pretty.
AH well I learned alot about the value of things that day. I lost all the kids Baby pictures and stuff that I had saved since I was a kid along with some really old family things.
Finally decided it will just make moving to Hawaii easier some day. Gotta make LEMONAID outta the Lemons some how. |

Bob - I am glad you are not too worse for the wear.
The kitty is a fluffy, schmoofy thing! So pretty.
I've got pics of my kitty in the guitar case, in the banjo case, in the ukulele case, trying to hug the O`ahu Steel, trying to help Paul play the banjo `uku, etc. If it is a container, she will crawl into it.
Yesterday I was playing a recording of Paul playing "Touch a Name on the Wall" on the computer. `Oni`oni kept looking behind the computer to see if she could find Daddy. She looked so puzzled./ |

Two of ours are chocolate an seal point himmies.
Thumbstruck...It was the strap that kept me from holding the guitar away from the fall.
With help from Andy, I found a way to upload pictures. So, for my 400th post (originally 400 before mistakes took it higher) this is what happened to my guitar. It is repairable but still...
Advice: I know it is hard to do but don't try to un-step on anything
when you are wearing a guitar.

Ouch. Glad that you ended up in better shape than the guitar. So what's the moral of the story? Don't play with a strap? Don't play standing? Don't fall down? |

Fall downing, as Paul calls it, is majorly bad. Way, way bad. He doesn't even want to talk about fall downing, since he spent Thanksgiving until first of Feb. last year on sick leave after falling on his knee. Then he got that staph infection in his knee and ended up with two surgeries on it. And ended up with all the docs & nurses, etc., looking at his knee saying "Eeeeewwwww".
How are himilayans different than Persian? They are so clute and fluffy. I bet they are so adorable when they are baby kitties. |
