Well, I'm probably the last one on the planet... NPR just had a segment on Peluso Microphones... apparently, they are the economical answer to the old Neumann's which sound great, and cost... I'm not planning to buy...too many trips to Islands, Guitar and violin shops.... but I bet they're gonna turn up in my friends' studios! Anybody been using these yet? Models of preference?

Gordon,
As a gear slut, these look great. Nice specs. Haven't tried them. At an average price of about $1500 they're not exactly cheap (except compared to an old Neumann, Telefunken, Soundelux, duh!). Some of these new boutique mics are awesome for the price. Maybe I can find someone to let me A/B one for an upcoming session.

They look kind of OK, here is the spec summary of one of their large diameter condensors:
Type: Condenser Pressure Gradient w/ 34mm P-K69 capsule Frequency Range: 17Hz/25Khz Polar Pattern: Cardioid, Omni, & Figure 8 Sensitivity: 12mv/pa Impedance: 200 ohms SPL: 148 db w/ 10db pad Equivalent Noise: 15 db (A-weighted) Power Requirements: Included Dedicated Power Supply Size: 46 mm x 262 mm Weight: 750 g
At 15db spl this mic is noisy by modern standards, even the Cheaper Neumanns and AKGs have a 6-7db noise floor, so these things are more than twice as noisy. For quiet instruments and distance recording this makes a difference.
Other mics of theirs come in at 12db to 16db, also noisy.
Plus, they don't seem to post curves on some of their mics, that is a serious problem if you leave out significant technical data.
Sorry, but all in all, I would give them a pass, as I want my mics to be state of the art in the quietness department, and I need all the technical data clearly presented up front.
For myself, I would buy some more AKG C414 or Neumann TLM 103 instead (for large diameter), or save up for some Schoeps.
I would not mind having some nice Ribbons, at 2.5mV/Pascal their ribbons have fairly good output (for a ribbon - I had to go check this), but and I cannot find a response curve, so I would not buy until I saw some more test results (including a curve).
