I've been interviewed today for a brief (nine minute) feature about contemporary `ukulele music, which will air on radio in Seattle today (May 6); it'll also be available streaming live, and archived at the station's website later today.
They had to limit the piece to three selections, so I picked cuts by Herb Ohta, Jr., James Hill & Jake Shimabukuro, as representative of some different styles. (I've been told that we'll probably do more features in later weeks, some of which will focus more on the Hawaiian side of the music.)
The feature will air as part of "Sound Focus" on KUOW-FM. In the Seattle area, the station is at 94.9 FM, and for anywhere around the world, the website is www.kuow.org. Airtime is approximately 2:40 pm Pacific Time (11:40 am Hawai`i Time), and it should be archived on the website shortly after. Hope you can tune in, either live or later.
(Yes, KUOW is the station where I used to work in the '80s and '90s, and where I am now back on contract to create a digital version of their old archives.)

OK - rather than making you dig through the archives, that day's program is at: http://www.kuow.org/defaultProgram.asp?ID=14857 --- you'll need to cue to 34 minutes in. |

Retro... very nice piece. However all that talk of you doing the hula was a bit disturbing. |

Eh, Braddah Greg! You were very good on the ray'djo (you da professional ray'djoman!). Choice of artists to emphasize the sensei of ukulele's new age: terrific. If any Patchers can go see James Hil, GO!!! IF can, Retro, try get clips of up-&-coming "kid" artists performing for/at UGH 2005 and forward. These are the Jake's and Paiva's of tomorrow. Sorry; I mean today. |

Mahalo, Herb, for the John King stuffs, too - on their way back early next week, and I look forward to hearing the Three J's at Dusty Strings' Uke Fest on June 28: John King, James Hill & Jim Beloff. Then Ohta-San & Herb Ohta, Jr., at Town Hall the next night. `Ukulele heaven in Seattle that weekend! |
