Rodney Lopez will hold an intermediate level ukulele workshop that morning. When I asked him by email if he would like me to post the information, he pointed me to his new Yahoo group, DaUkulele. I don't think he'll mind if I add that it will be in the same location, 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, bring uke and pencil. He will provide materials. Cost will be $25.00. Email is rodsr @ aol.com
I also emailed Aunty Manu about posting this and about the type of music. She replied:
quote: aloha Pauline...Mahalo for your inquiry. please feel free to advertise as much as you can. I will be holding a seat for you.. Because we want to accommodate the diversity of music played with hawaiian instruments we are dedicating time for Hawaiian/Hapa-Hole/forties/western/country/folk/songs. Please bring your song sheets to share. We are starting off the Kanikapila with our music sheets whereby we can talk about the composers/background of the song/etc. See you at the Kanikapila..Aunty Manu

It was FUN!!! Auntie Manu made us all feel very welcome. She had a set of song sheets to pass out of all kinds of music, Hawaiian, hapa, and pure haole like "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" in honor of St. Patrick's day tomorrow. Some of us brought music to share, too. There were about 12 persons attending.
Auntie Manu led us in teaching the melody and pronounciation of the Hawaiian songs. She has a fine voice. I wondered if she were mic'ed, but no. She has plans to bring in specialists each month, including ki ho`alu. Hmm!! She mentioned there were many resources in the area. Double hmm!!
All instruments were welcome. Mostly there were ukes, but a guitar, violin, and a bass were there, too. The addition of the different voices made it so much more fun.
There was a ukulele workshop for intermediate players preceding the kanikapila which this beginner didn't attend.
The schedule will change; the workshop will probably begin at 1:00 and the kanikapila at 2:00 or so. I'll post when I find out. There was room for more, so if you're in the area, plan to come to Burien every 3rd Sunday. Well, 4th Sunday in April because 3rd Sunday is Easter. |

Aloha e Pauline,
Hope to see you there. Been away from the board and from the guitar for awhile now. Trying to get going again. (Man, do my fingers hurt!)

Aunty Manu has cancelled these until further notice so she and her dancers can concentrate on upcoming contests in August. |
