This may have been mentioned before -- advance apologies if so, but it's worth a double-mention.
The Hawai`i Magazine website has an audio page, with the marvelous Puakea Nogelmeier giving correct pronunciation of a few Hawaiian words: http://www.hawaiimagazine.com/hawaiian_words

Very cool! He is an expert (too bad they couldn't include the kahakÅ but...) and you are right, his voice is very compelling :-)

ho, so da "w" in Hawaiian is no sound like one "v" but jus moa like da ragulah w??? How come we wen learn dat in school liddat? |

Sometimes I hear native speakers say a "w" like an English "w", sometimes like an English "v", but usually it seems to be somewhere in between. Or at least that is how I hear it...
