****Ding-Ding-Ding. A-oogah-A-oogah – Alert-Alert. FIND OF THE WEEK http://youtube.com/user/SwimminSasquatch - From here you can see our friends Da Oddah Guyz doing Pua Hone, Ipo Lei Momi and Nupepa Slack Key as well as SUPA doing all kinds of stuff. How swell it was to find this good music. You Seattle folks are so very talented. Thanks for giving us all a chance to see and hear you. But who da heck is SwimminSasquatch? Is that you, Momi?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=vQ1wZErcKps – A young man on Big Island named Sean Robbins. I think he is a teenager, still in school. Quite good. He holds the base very well, timing is very good. A little cutie, too.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=5J5nzCYGH6o – Rap Reiplinger – Da Man wit da Cho cho Lips - For us uninitiated, what are cho cho lips?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=oEzmtPPxQ-o – Kapala performing at the Higher Ground Café – This very nice, great singing and great percussion. Kapala consists of: \ Zanuck Lindsey (guitar, vocals, musical director) Kimo Artis (vocals) Lopaka Ho'opi'i (vocals, ukulele) Lance "Kai" Artis (vocals, guitar) Richard Heirakuji (vocals, bass) Adj Larioza (percussion) Abe Lagrimas, Jr. (vibes, ukulele, percussion)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6bcTuq6o29A – Some unknown group performing Wai o Ke Aniani – Very good, they are. If anyone knows who they are, please let us know.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ab3LKtAViVE – Manoa DNA - Seems like a very nice `ohana – Dad and two sons. Contemporary Hawaiian music.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pbunvxjxmn4 – The Ink Spots performing “Hawaiian Wedding Song” – an interesting take on this beautiful song.
http://youtube.com/results?search_query=cyril+pakele&search_type=&aq=f –This is the results of all the cuts from Pakele Live. Cyril Pahinui and Peter Moon, Jr. on Pakele Live. Ho, boy-oh-boy is this ever swell. And now you can get a feeling for how some of the music will be at the Gabby Festival in Waimanalo in August. A real surprise is hearing Cyril do “Let it Be”. Also, on “Hi`ilawe”, you can hear the `ukulele skills of Peter Moon, Jr.

Nope - he's a member of the Seattle `Ukulele Players' Ass'n ("SUPA") named Andrew. Nice guy as far as I know him. I no mo video camera, which is probably best for everyone involved. |

Duke - it worked just swell. How in the world did I miss that one? I think they snuck it in while we were ovea dea wit you. See, there is a future. Not only was the `ukulele playing so good, but the hula was most excellent. Our hula ladies here dance it so nice lidat. I love that song anyhow, especially by Lorna Lim.
Braddah Ed - That Peter Moon video, I think I posted that a few weeks ago. Sometime not too long ago, I tink. And then there are a couple of others on there, too. Peter Moon had major talent. In that video you posted, look at the fingers on this left hand. See how long they are? Those are musicians hands. I can tell by looking at someones hands. Paul's newphew Jesse has hands like that, too. Jesse is 18 and plays guitar, acoustic and electric and piano. He even teaches other kids for play piano. Very talented he is. Wants to grow up to be a financial advisor, not a professional musician. I guess he wants to make money. |
