so, we skipped out of wednesday's dinner at AMC to attend the holualoa kanikapila. it's held every wednesday from 6 to 9 pm in the garage behind the holualoa ukulele gallery (http://www.konaweb.com/ukegallery/). jack and janie knight organize the kanikapila, but it's not their show - they go around giving everyone a turn to lead a song. the youngest player - who also led a song - must be about 5, and she's scary good. when we went, there were a number of drop-by tourists who were joining in the musical fun. and, one of the regulars is the musical legend kona bob, who can even teach an opihi how to play lap steel (i'm proving a bit harder to teach).
be sure to head up the hill next time you're in the kona area of hawai`i island! and, don't forget to check out sam rosen's gallery. we had a great time talking uke story with sam and checking out the instruments he has around the gallery.
aloha, keith

I will second that... (not about your lap steel playing, Keith. I am talking about how much fun we have.) If you are going to make it all the way to the Big Island, it would be a shame to miss out on the Wednesday night kanikapila. If you need directions, do a Google Map search for Holualoa, Hawaii. The little green pin is sticking in Sam's Ukulele Gallery (His shop was the original post office for Holualoa).
Thanks for coming to join us Keith! Next time, you can play the Walkingbass, and I will play lap steel! Aloha, -Konabob |
