Here's a chance for all of us who are fans of Hawaiian music and musicians, to contribute to the production of a documentary about legendary musician/composer/storyteller, Clyde "Kindy" Halema`uma`u Sproat.

Thanks for letting us know about this, Auntie Maria. I was wondering if there had been much documentation of his vast knowledge. What a story teller, too.

I have the Na Mele Paniolo CD set. If you don't have it, it is well worth whatever they ask for it--$20 as I recall for 2 CD's with a well done booklet. Kindy is a main contributor and an such a good singer and story teller! A documentary about Kindy Sproat deserves donations. |

This update about the Kindy Sproat film just popped up in my email: http://keithnealy.com/mainwebsite_html/Kindy%20Html/Kindy_NL.1.html
And the 2-CD set which Haole_Boy mentioned, is a treaure! Available only at museum gift shops here in the islands, it's chockful of songs and stories performed by kupuna musicians -- each group, from a different island. Liner notes include lyrics and translations. This was a project of the State Foundation for Culture and the Arts -- originally released in the 1980s as a 2-cassette package with minimal liner notes. Thankfully, while working for SFCA, Keoni Fujitani got the funding to re-release on CD, and improve and expand the liner notes. This is (was?) a very limited run -- so if you can find one, grab it! You will not be disappointed with the content. |
