cw, that was me. I saw the picture on Elderly's website. I e-mailed Weber (their website is www.soundtoearth.com ) and asked about them, as I have some Weber dealers near me. They indicated that they only made four of them, at Elderly's request, and that at this point they didn't have any plans of making ukes as part of their regular line.
I really like the Sweat Pea mandolins (although the maple fingerboards get dirty in stores really quickly, and I'm not a mandolin player). |

Damn, only 4?
Wonder if Elderly had some orders, they would want to do more. Do you know of any images online -- am I wrong to assume you haven't heard one?
Thanks

A photo used to be available on the Elderly website and it probably still is. Elderly's a good company to deal with, too. |

Update -- talked to Elderly, they say it's back ordered, should be available in a month. They gave me an item number and specifications.
However no picture, according to the guy on the phone. If you have seen one, does it basically look like the Sweetpea mandolin? |

Thanks -- I like it! Hope the possibility of back order isn't a mistake, considering your conversation with Weber. Hmm, 2 steel strings on it? wonder if you could use nylon for all 4? |

CW,
I would surmise that all strings are nylon and two of them have metal windings around a nylon core. Now I'll really guess, but if the 4th string is tuned re-entrant it could be swapped for a plain nylon string. At 14" scale-length, big soprano but much less than concert sized, the 3rd string could be swapped for plain nylon, too. |

Ok, finally tried the Sweet Pea Uke, purchased at elderly.
Very nicely made, neat looking instrument. However, the sound wasn't what we hoped for. Low volume, just ok tone. Some buzzing on a string, maybe due to the nut. Didn't want to stay in tune.
Compared it side by side to a Fluke and an Akulele, which both had more volume, sustain, resonation, clear tone.
Kind of a disappointment -- the Sweet Pea Mandolin has a nice ringing sound and a lot of sustain.
Might appeal to a collector one day, so few of them.
Sadly, we returned it, will probably go with an Akulele. Seems extremely popular over a Flea Market Music. |

Aloha cw,
You have direct experience with an Akulele. That's good.
Now I'll say something that I hope I don't come to regret, but sometimes I think they set the bar too low over at FMM. I've heard too much praise for ukes that I suspect were not at all worthy. I can't give you specifics, and I barely know ukulele brands, but that's an impression I have. |

Yeah it was kind of a bummer, but I would still condider getting a Sweet Pea Mandolin.
Pauline, I don't know the brands or what to expect either, thus the long drawn out indecisiveness.
Since yer local, -- do you ever go by Trading Musician, on Roosevelt in Seattle? They have an Akulele in stock, if you checked it out, I'd be interested in your opinion.
Me, I liked the sound, only wonder about the one piece neck/body...will it bow? |

Hi cw, I've never been there. Maybe that should change. |
